Conor McGregor UFC news: Notorious says he can read Donald Cerrone 'like a children's book'

Conor McGregor claims he can read Donald Cerrone "like a children's book" ahead of his UFC return.

The Notorious will be back in the Octagon for the first time in over 15 months this weekend when he faces the man with the most fights and most wins in UFC history.

A former champion at 145 and 155lbs, McGregor is facing veteran Cerrone in just his second ever fight at 170lbs.

Despite this, the Dubliner is confident of recording his first win in over three years at the T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in the early hours of Sunday.

Speaking at a press conference in Vegas in the early hours of Thursday morning, McGregor said:  "I can read Donald like a children's book to be honest.

"He's a good fighter. He's got some good tricks up his sleeve. I know the tricks he has and I know what he's planning and what he hopes to achieve but we are well prepared. We'll see on the night. It's going to be a good night."

Cerrone admitted at the press event that McGregor will be the toughest opponent he has ever faced.

He commented:  "He's the two-time belt holding champ so you can definitely say to date, this is the toughest battle I've stepped in against."

Cerrone also expressed his excitement ahead of the fight to the joy of those present in the Pearl Theater at the Palms Casino Resort.

Addressing McGregor, he added: "I hope you're ready. I hope you're ready because I'm coming. He knows it. He's coming. We're going to blow the f***ing roof off this place. You don't understand, I'm so excited for this fight."

A win for former two-weight champion McGregor could open all sorts of doors for him regarding UFC fights, but McGregor strongly suggested that he wants to try his hand at boxing again following his 2017 loss to Floyd Mayweather.

He said: "I would love that Floyd rematch. For what was in front of me, I thought I done very well and with some slight adjustments, I'd have done even better so now I feel I could take that victory."

McGregor also confirmed that he has held talks with Manny Pacquiao's representatives over a potential bout, but claimed he will pursue a shot at a boxing world title.

He added: "For me now an aspiration of mine now is to win a boxing world title. I think that would be a phenomenal feather in the cap and something I'd love to achieve in the future and it's something I will achieve.

"I'm back with my boxing coaches at Crumlin Boxing Club where I learned how to throw a punch.

"They sat me down on my punches and we cleaned up some things. I'm feeling really confident in my boxing ability and it would be an honour to come back into boxing."
