Conor McGregor UFC news: Notorious pictured training as he teases Frankie Edgar fight

Conor McGregor has been pictured training as he teases a fight with Frankie Edgar.

The Notorious has not fought in the UFC in over a year, but has hinted that he could return to the Octagon before the end of 2019.

McGregor posted a happy birthday message to Edgar on social media, saying: "Happy birthday Frankie, see you in December."

And the American fighter appeared to confirm talks have already begun to make a bout happen by the end of the year.

Edgar, 38, told his Twitter followers he had "said yes already" to a potential fight with the 31-year-old Dubliner.

He said: "Thanks pal, I said yes already it's on you and Dana White (UFC President) to make it happen."

Two photos posted on McGregor's Instagram account show the Dubliner training at John Kavanagh's Straight Blast Gym.

The social media exchange between the two came after comments by Edgar, insisting he'd fight McGregor at any weight division.

He told MMA Weekly: “I’ll fight Conor at any weight class. We can do 55, 70, he's gonna be bigger than me regardless of what weight we fight at.

“He’s been saying he wants to fight me. I’m hearing he wants to fight me. And he has the control.

"I don’t know if the UFC is into it, but ultimately I believe Conor has the choice. If he really wants to fight me, we’ll fight.”

And just last August, McGregor revealed he was interested in fighting Edgar in an explosive interview with ESPN's Ariel Helwani.

He said: "Frankie Edgar is also up there because he has similarities to Khabib, he runs on the back foot and shoots on the single leg.

"Frankie has been very respectful, he said he wanted to tell his grandkids he fought Conor McGregor one day.

"There are so many bouts for me but it doesn't matter, it's about getting back in and being who I am, not a shell of myself, not half-committed."
