Conor McGregor UFC news: Notorious makes IRA joke as he replies to Seth Rogan comparison on Instagram

Conor McGregor has made a crass joke about the IRA after comparing a recent picture of himself to actor Seth Rogan.

The Dubliner posted a picture of himself on Instagram earlier this week and followed it up with a picture of himself alongside Rogan, expressing a similarity.

Rogan played Officer Michaels in the hit film Superbad which centered on the character of McLovin.

And McGregor referenced the IRA and the blockbuster film in the caption: "You bad ass motherf***** Seth, can't wait for Superbad 2, McGregor and McLovin join the IRA."

McGregor has been involved in a string of controversies this year having not fought since he was choked out by Khabib Nurmagomedov last October.

Earlier this year he knocked a phone out of a fan's hand in Miami and will appear in court on Friday charged with allegedly assaulting a man in an Irish pub in April.

McGregor has pinpointed a return to action for early next year with Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje among his potential opponents.

The Dubliner is desperate for a rematch with Nurmagomedov and claims he is willing to travel to Russia for a second shot at the lightweight champion.

But speaking at a forum in St Petersburg, Nurmagomedov said: "From a fighter’s point of view, (the McGregor rivalry) is a thing of the past.

"I have nothing to prove. But he has something to prove. We know he does.

"There’s a lot of businessmen here and I think most of them will tell me to fight him because it’ll bring money. I'd fight all the main contenders first, and I could fight him to benefit my agricultural projects.

"I have to say that Tony Ferguson deserves it more. You have to give him credit. He is on a 12-fight win streak and he deserves it more than Conor.

"Conor should come back, win, earn his place and get in line."
