Conor McGregor UFC news: Notorious due to appear in Florida court today

Conor McGregor is due to go on trial today at a Florida court over the alleged robbery of a fan’s mobile phone.

The Notorious is facing two counts of robbery by sudden snatching and criminal mischief relating to damage of property.

McGregor could be slapped with a maximum penalty of five years in prison for the third degree felony offence, while the maximum jail time for criminal mischief is one year.

The UFC star pleaded not-guilty to both counts on April 10 with a trial set for May 13 at Miami Dade criminal court.

McGregor is required to attend the trial as a defendant, but his lawyer previously indicated that they hope the case will be settled before this morning's trial.

The incident happened on a Miami beach on March 11 when McGregor was arrested after allegedly slapping a phone out of a man’s hand and stamping on it.

Today's trial is scheduled to get underway at 9am local time (2pm Irish time).

'The Spider' faces Jared Cannonier this Saturday as he looks to recover from a defeat to Israel Adesanya in February, but he clearly has one eye on the Notorious one.

McGregor is currently in talks with UFC about a return fight after serving his NSAC ban for his part in the brawl that marred the end of UFC 229 in October.

And MMA legend Silva says UFC fans want to see the 'super fight' between two of the biggest names in the company in a message to White.

Speaking to TMZ, Silva said: “Come on boss. Give the show for the fans, give this show for the big fans of the UFC.

"Two big guys, two big names, you know? It’s good money for you Dana, and a good challenge for me and Conor.

"I believe I could cut my weight [to 180], I believe McGregor to get [his] weight to 180. I believe it’s a good fight for me and Conor. That’s a good experience for the fans, especially the fans of this sport.

"That’s a super, super , super fight. Anderson Silva and Conor McGregor.”

The news comes as the Notorious' rival Khabib Nurmagomedov will make his eagerly-anticipated UFC return on September 7 - with one eye still on a future super fight with Georges St-Pierre.

Khabib has not appeared in The Octagon since his UFC 229 win over Conor McGregor last October, whilst St-Pierre announced his retirement earlier this year having failed to negotiate a bout with the Russian.

According to ESPN, Khabib is set to hedline the UFC 242 event in September, which will take place in Abu Dhabi.

Conor McGregor UFC news: Dana White predicts who and when Notorious will fight next

He is expected to take on interim UFC lightweight champion Dustin Poirier - and his manager has revealed a three-fight plan will hopefully end against legend St-Pierre.

Ali Abdelaziz told ESPN : "He gave me very specific instructions.

"He said he wants to fight Sept. 7 and again in December. And if Georges St-Pierre can figure things out with the UFC by April, that's the deal. He would like that fight in April."

"The lightweight division has a lot of contenders, and we need to keep the division going.

Conor McGregor reveals staggering amount Proper Twelve whiskey has made in ONE YEAR

"Khabib has done this before. He fought [Edson Barboza], Al [Iaquinta] and Conor [McGregor] in less than one year [from December 2017 to October 2018]. If it can be Georges in April, he would love that fight. If not, it can be any contender."

The pair share plenty of mutual respect, with St-Pierre stating he "couldn't wait" to watch his next fight when he announced his retirement.
