Conor McGregor UFC news: Notorious claims he broke his foot weeks before Khabib Nurmagomedov fight

Conor McGregor claims that he is "happy" with how his grudge match defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov went - claiming he broke his foot just weeks before the bout.

McGregor was submitted by the UFC lightweight champion in the third round of their UFC 229 main event, and just seconds later a brawl was sparked after a very personal build-up to the October fight.

Rumours of a rematch have persisted in the months following the bout as the pair serve Nevada State Athletic Commission bans for their roles in the post-fight brawl.

Despite a clear defeat, the Dubliner has claimed that he is happy with the contest and the learning experience gained, adding that time will reveal why he's happy with it.

Conor McGregor UFC news: Notorious speaks out after pleading not guilty in Miami 'phone smashing'

In the first of two tweets, McGregor said: "I broke my foot three weeks out from the bout.

"I still marched forward however, and also landed the final blows of the night. On his blood brother.

"I am happy with how the contest went and the lessons learned.

"In my fighting and more importantly my preparation. Time will reveal all."

When asked which part of the fight in particular he was happy with, he added: "Very happy with my defense.

"A precarious position with the head pinned against the fence. Every movement must be calculated as any over exertion leaves the guard open and could lead to a finishing blow. None of which came close.

"Zero facial damage taken and I won the next round."

But right now, the 30-year-old has his hands full after he was arrested last month and now faces charges for allegedly smashing a fan's phone in Miami.

New high-quality footage of the incident where Conor McGregor allegedly smashed a fan's phone in Miami last month has emerged.

The new security footage, released by TMZ Sports, shows McGregor greet fans before appearing to slap the phone from the fan's hand and stamp on it.

The news comes as McGregor's lawyers entered not guilty pleas in a US court for charges against him yesterday - with the trial date is set for next month.

McGregor was not present in Miami-Dade County Court for the hearing.

His case is due to come before the court again on April 30, with the trial date slated for May 13.

The Dubliner could face a maximum of six years in prison if found guilty - but is likely to get away with a slap on the wrist if he is convicted.

The 30 year-old was arrested on March 11 and charged with one count of strong-arm robbery and one count of criminal mischief after allegedly slapping away and standing on Ahmed Abdirzak’s phone.
