Conor McGregor UFC news: Notorious agrees to fight Frankie Edgar in 2019 - and says he'll 'give purse to charity'

Conor McGregor has teased fans once again by dropping a massive hint he'll fight in 2019 - and said he'll donate his purse to charity.

The Notorious posted a happy birthday message to UFC star Frankie Edgar on social media, saying: "Happy birthday Frankie, see you in December."

And the American fighter appeared to confirm talks have already begun to make a bout happen by the end of the year.

Edgar, 38, told his Twitter followers he had "said yes already" to a potential fight with the 31-year-old Dubliner.

He said: "Thanks pal, I said yes already it's on you and Dana White (UFC President) to make it happen."

And the Crumlin native then seemed to put pressure on the UFC President to push for a bout in two months time - and said he would donate his fight money to charity.

McGregor said: "There you go White, make the bout. Give my purse to charity. First responders."

The social media exchange came after comments by Edgar, insisting he'd fight McGregor at any weight division.

He told MMA Weekly: “I’ll fight Conor at any weight class. We can do 55, 70, he's gonna be bigger than me regardless of what weight we fight at.

“He’s been saying he wants to fight me. I’m hearing he wants to fight me. And he has the control.

"I don’t know if the UFC is into it, but ultimately I believe Conor has the choice. If he really wants to fight me, we’ll fight.”

And just last August, McGregor revealed he was interested in fighting Edgar in an explosive interview with ESPN's Ariel Helwani.

He said: "Frankie Edgar is also up there because he has similarities to Khabib, he runs on the back foot and shoots on the single leg.

"Frankie has been very respectful, he said he wanted to tell his grandkids he fought Conor McGregor one day.

"There are so many bouts for me but it doesn't matter, it's about getting back in and being who I am, not a shell of myself, not half-committed."
