Conor McGregor UFC news: Notorious accused of acting like an 'ex-girlfriend' by Tony Ferguson

Conor McGregor has been accused of acting like an "ex-girlfriend" by angry UFC rival Tony Ferguson.

Ferguson, who has won 12 straight fights, has been named by McGregor as a potential opponent when he returns to The Octagon, reports The Mirror.

But he is keen to instead face the winner of Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Dustin Poirier to take his title shot, despite rumours McGregor could jump ahead of him to the front of the queue for the winner.

Ferguson has made it clear he is only interested in fighting for the title rather than taking on McGregor - but he has no issues with handing the Irishman a title shot further down the line provided he earns it the "right way".

Yet he has joked he is unsure he still wants to fight anyone other than "old men" after recently calling out Hollywood actor Mark Wahlberg.

“He’s not my concern,” Ferguson told Ariel Helwani's MMA Show on ESPN .

“He’s like a female, like one of those ex-girlfriends. I stopped worrying about that. At first he was in line, trying to go for the title, then once he became irrelevant, I stopped caring about the dude. Now he’s mentioning my name? Get the f*** out of here.”

“He’s been fighting old men lately, he’s trying to fight Mark Wahlberg. Maybe that’s the fight for him. The dude’s got a couple of things, making his money, doing his thing. I don’t know if he wants to fight anymore, but he is not my concern.

“If push comes to shove, and then we need to.

“I see him fighting the loser of this next fight this weekend. If you want to keep up with the rankings, we have to do it the right way.

"So me, if I fight for the title next he’s got to fight for the underdog. If he wins, you what, maybe I’ll give him a shot.”
