Boxing superstar Katie Taylor was gushing in her praise of Conor McGregor , thanking him for his support as she unified her world lightweight titles over the weekend.
Taylor controversially took a majority decision win over Delfine Persoon in the early hours of Sunday morning at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Speaking to McGregor's media outlet The Mac Life, Taylor heaped praise on the Irishman, saying: "To get his support was absolutely amazing.
"He's one of the greatest athletes in the world right now, one of the most recognisable athletes and he doesn't have to support me the way he does.
"His support means the world to me, he really went out of his way to come to my fight in Boston a couple of months ago to show his support and that means everything to me."
Both fighters have made history in their respective sports, with McGregor winning his lightweight title in the same building as Taylor's unification.
"The two of us are definitely history-makers in our own sports," Taylor added. "What he's done for MMA and UFC has brought it to a new level, it's absolutely remarkable.
"I miss seeing him in the cage, I can't wait to see him back in there and continuing to make history like he has done over the last few years."
