Conor McGregor UFC News: John Kavanagh still believes Notorious is 'arguably the best in the world'

Conor McGregor is still 'arguably the best in the world', according to his long-time SBG Ireland coach John Kavanagh.

The former two-weight UFC world champion hasn't fought in over a year since his loss to current Lightweight title holder Khabib Nurmagomedov.

But in a recent interview with Business Insider, Kavanagh revealed that McGregor is back training for a return to the cage.

He said: "He's in phenomenal shape right now and we're back training away, but I don't have any scoop to give you about an upcoming fight, I don't know of any.

"I tell those guys, the management team and him, 'Let me know when you have it.'

"When something's confirmed, I'm sure I'll be told, we'll train for it, we'll fight, and that's that. I hear the rumors, same as you.

"I don't even bother texting him about it because there's a new rumor every day, I'd love to see him against anybody. Bring them all on.

"I'm his coach, I love mixed martial arts, and I believe he's arguably the best in the world."

Meanwhile, McGregor could be drafted in to the camp of another featherweight title contender next year, if he's not too busy.

The Notorious famously defeated Jose Aldo to win the UFC featherweight title in December 2015, and now it's his teammate Pedro Carvalho's chance in Bellator when he fights Patricio 'Pitbull' Freire in the Quarter-Finals of the Featherweight Grand Prix.

Speaking exclusively with Irish Mirror, Carvalho said: "If I had the chance to get the help from Conor that would be massive.

"But everybody knows how busy the man is so I'm not sure if it will happen."
