Conor McGregor UFC news: Islam Makhachev interested in fighting Notorious

Dagestani fighter Islam Makhachev has revealed he is interested in fighting Conor McGregor.

The UFC lightweight believes the Irishman is not as good as he once was and would like to test himself against The Notorious.

He told RT: "Of course I am interested. Even heavyweights are talking about fighting McGregor!

"I'm interested in him too, because he is a good fighter and you can make a name for yourself fighting him and make some good money."

Makhachev, who is a teammate of Khabib Nurmagomedov, admits he was bothered by McGregor's trash talking before his fight with the lightweight champion last year.

Makhachev added: "It bothered me a bit when he was talking trash before his fight with Khabib.

"Now he has taken a beating and I realise that he is talking just to stay relevant. We've seen him talking a lot before he fought Khabib but that was just words and nothing behind them.

"[Khabib] shares my point of view that Conor has already taken a beating, so it makes no sense to pay attention to what he's saying.

"I was watching their first presser and there were moments when I thought I wouldn't be able to restrain myself if I were in Khabib's place."

Makhachev's comments comes as Nurmagomedov told McGregor he needs to win ten consecutive fights to get another shot at the UFC lightweight belt.

“As for a rematch, to fight for a belt in the UFC, I remember I had something like nine or 10 fights. If he wins 10 fights in a row, then that’s completely possible,” Nurmagomedov said in quotes reported by MMA Junkie.
