Conor McGregor UFC News: Georges St-Pierre would return to fight Notorious

Georges St-Pierre would return to the UFC for a mega-fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov or Conor McGregor, according to his coach.

The MMA legend has not fought since he beat Michael Bisping to win the middleweight title two years ago in what was his first fight for four years.

St-Pierre, 38, was struggling with ulcerative colitis but has now recovered and could now return to the cage.

But his coach Firas Zahabi insisted the Canadian will not drop down to lightweight.

“He’s older now, and life is good," he told MMA Junkie . "He’s found a social life, a balance in life of training and family and friends. To leave all that to do 155lb is a big cost in terms of sacrificing energy and preparation.

"He would have to prep six months to get to that. He would have to set it up to get done. 155lb would be work. Is he going to work that much? I think that ship has sailed.

"I'm not talking for Georges. In my opinion he’ll only come back for a mega-fight. Like a mega-fight.

"No titles needed, either. Could be a title. I don’t think that’s really important to him. Like a mega-fight. Only those two names (Nurmagomedov and McGregor) that are the names big enough for him and enticing."

Nurmagomedov recently defended his lightweight title against Dustin Poirier, winning by submission in the third round.

A year ago the Russian choked out McGregor in the biggest fight in the UFC's history.

Nurmagomedov is expected to return against Tony Ferguson early next year with McGregor also primed for a comeback around the same time.

The Irishman has not fought since he lost to Nurmagomedov but could return to fight Justin Gaethje in the new year.
