Conor McGregor UFC news: Fans talking about old Notorious tweet after shock retirement

Conor McGregor's shock retirement has got people talking about a tweet the Notorious made only two days ago.

The Crumlin man announced that he is hanging up his gloves on Twitter in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

But on Sunday evening last McGregor appeared to be calling out all comers for his next potential fight.

The 30-year-old congratulated fellow UFC star Anthony Pettis on his knockout win over Stephen Thompson last weekend that saw him join McGregor and Kenny Florian with victories at featherweight, lightweight and welterweight.

McGregor tweeted to Pettis: "Welcome to the club and congratulations" and then added: "Now who f****** wants it?"

Despite this call to arms, McGregor has since seemingly decided to retire after a career that saw him become a two-weight world champion and the biggest name in the sport.

McGregor dropped a big hint at his thinking on Monday night's Jimmy Fallon.

He told the chat show about his future plans: "We're in talks for July. I don't necessarily need to fight. I am set for life."
