Conor McGregor UFC news: Donald Cerrone claims Notorious turned down fighting him a number of times

Donald Cerrone has claimed Conor McGregor has turned down the opportunity to fight him a number of times.

The Notorious has been linked with fighting the American, but Cerrone insists the Dubliner "won’t sign his end of the deal".

He told MMA Junkie: “That’s been so close so many times.

“The funny thing is, when Diaz fought McGregor, I just fought, and I was flying on that Sunday, and they called me and were like, ‘Hey, do you want the McGregor fight?’

“So he turned me down back then, turned me down three or four other times now. It’s crazy to me.

“His last fight, we were supposed to do it, and it just deteriorated. I don’t know, he just won’t sign his end of the deal.”

Meanwhile, McGregor has been dealt a blow in his search for a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The undefeated Russian has hinted that his retirement from MMA might not be too far away.

That could mean the Irishman might never get the rematch he so desperately wants after losing to The Eagle last year.

Ahead of the second defence of his UFC lighweight belt v Dustin Poirier, Nurmagomedov told Russia 24 : "Definitely, my career is not at the initial stage, I am somewhere near the end. But I probably need to hold a couple of fights, I feel that there is still a rivalry in me.

“I want to play, I want to compete with the best fighters in the world. We’ll see; this is a question that is now meaningless to answer - I have a fight ahead."

Nurmagomedov also hinted at fighting Tony Ferguson after his bout with Poirier.

He added: "Of course, we need to fight with Ferguson, but I don't choose my opponents and never choose.

"Tony wants to fight, he must take the initiative. I don't care if Ferguson is put in place of Poirier or someone else. I will fight anyone."
