Conor McGregor UFC news: Dana White shoots down Jorge Masvidal's Notorious ultimatum

UFC president Dana White really does not want to see Jorge Masvidal fight Conor McGregor, and he has now well and truly shot down the prospect of the two meeting in the octagon.

White has previously suggested that the high-flying welterweight wouldn't be a good match for the company's biggest star, suggesting that Masvidal isn't in his plans for McGregor's return to the cage.

But the American, fresh off knocking out hot prospect Ben Askren in a matter of seconds, has his eyes on McGregor rather than welterweight king Kamaru Usman - with money being the common denominator in targeting a McGregor fight.

Speaking on the Dan Le Batard show, Masvidal said: "Definitely the title, definitely Kamaru Usman interests me.

"He's got the title and that's what I want but he's always having injuries and things are happening.

"I want [Conor] McGregor. I want to break his face. I think that's an easy paycheck. He's got these cash symbols written all over his face for me. I just don't see it going his way if I'm honest with you."

But White is having none of it.

The UFC chief has worked closely with McGregor throughout his rise to prominence in the company and even his venture into the boxing world, and insists that the company will offer Masvidal a fight rather than meet his demands.

"You can't make ultimatums," White responded.

"Listen, we're going to offer him a fight, and if he accepts the fight, he does and if he doesn't, he doesn't."

McGregor is yet to fight after his brutal submission to lightweight champ and bitter rival Khabib Nurmagomedov last October, but a return in 2019 is very much on the cards.

But his opponent is yet to be decided, with names such as Nate Diaz, Donald Cerrone, Tony Ferguson, Dustin Poirier and just about every featherweight, lightweight and welterweight in the business itching to step into the Octagon with the 32-year-old.
