Conor McGregor UFC news: Bobby Lashley explains why Notorious would never be a champion if he joined WWE

If Conor McGregor was to ever join the WWE he'll never be a champion in the company, according to one of the WWE's top stars.

The former UFC two-weight champion has long been linked with a move into sports entertainment and has added fuel to that fire by recently showing support to fellow Dubliner Becky Lynch.

Lynch currently sits top of the food chain as the biggest star in professional wrestling, becoming the undisputed WWE Women's Champion after starring in the main event of Wrestlemania 35 last week.

And although McGregor would bring a lot to the company if he was to join forces with Vince McMahon, current WWE star Bobby Lashley reckons that he'll never be booked to hold one of the company's titles.

But Lashley thinks that the Dubliner wants to join and says that his trash-talking and reputation would bring a lot to the table.

“I think he wants to [join the WWE], he’s been talking a lot,” Lashley said in an interview with Sky Sports.

Conor McGregor UFC news: Khabib bats down rematch talk with no-nonsense response

“Conor is one of those guys that will shoot first and then shake hands later. He did it last year when he tried to call out the wrestlers.

"I think he’ll have a good opportunity to come over here and shake things up, run his mouth a little bit and bring some notoriety. I’d like to see him in. It would be cool.”

McGregor is 'too small' to be considered credible enough to win a title though according to Lashley, claiming that the 30-year-old would have to find an alternative roll.

Lashley added: “If he wants to be here he might have to try and find a role. We’re not going to put a big title on him, he’s way too small.”

Meanwhile, bitter rival Khabib Nurmagomedov has told McGregor to start winning fights again before talking up a rematch.

McGregor took to Twitter on Saturday to dispute claims that the Nurmagomedov is best grappler in the UFC.

The Crumlin man took on Khabib in October in a bout only to succumb to a fourth-round submission in Las Vegas.

But, responding to a fan, McGregor argued that the wrestling skills of the Dagestan fighter are overrated.

He said: “Having felt it in there [the octagon], I highly disagree with the ‘best grappler in the UFC’ comment regarding Khabib.

“My solely defensive guard was not passed until round 4. I, along with my team, overrated his grappling greatly. The rematch will show all.”

Khabib didn't take long to hit back though and urged McGregor to regain the winning feeling before any rematch between the pair.

He said: “You and your team never won anything since 2016. You got to get some W [wins], and we can talk about rematch #twitterwarrior."

McGregor has not won inside the octagon since beating Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in November 2016.
