Conor McGregor UFC news: Animal rights group urge Notorious to donate his fur coats

A leading animal rights organisation have called on Conor McGregor to go fur-free and donate his collection of designer mink coats.

The UFC star came under fire earlier this week after boasting about his one-of-a-kind Gucci fur coats that set him back $80,000 and $55,000 respectively.

McGregor declared of the pieces: "All white, floor length, Gucci mink! And I have the only two in existence!"

Anti-fur campaigner and TD Ruth Coppinger called the Crumlin man's display 'disgusting' and now PETA have pleaded with the sports star.

The organisation wrote a letter to McGregor outlining the cruel conditions involved in fur farming, saying that "animals on fur farms are never given a fighting chance".

And they urged the multi-millionaire to donate his designer coats and give up wearing fur.

PETA wrote: "Although it's too late to help the animals who were killed for your coats, you can help prevent more animals from suffering by donating these pieces to PETA.

"We would put them to good use in our educational displays in order to inform other people about the grim fur trade.

"Alternatively, we could give them to refugees in war-torn countries or people sleeping rough – the only people who have any excuse for wearing fur in this day and age – or use them as bedding for orphaned animals.

"Fur is dead – and since Ireland announced last week that it's phasing out fur farming, that message has never been clearer.

"So what do you say? Will you help us knock out cruelty to animals by swearing off fur and donating your coats?"
