Conor McGregor UFC fight news: Notorious set to face winner of September Khabib v Gaethje bout, says Dana White

UFC President Dana White has confirmed that they're planning for Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje to fight in September - and to have Conor McGregor take on the winner.

White indicated that after a conversation with The Eagle, the promotion are setting up the massive September showdown with the American after his stunning UFC 249 victory over top contender Tony Ferguson.

And with McGregor set to fight at some point during the summer, the plan is that the Dubliner will be waiting for the winner.

“I actually talked to Khabib today, Khabib told me he’d be ready in September," White told Canadian radio.

“Earlier today, I had said [he could fight] this summer, because we were texting back and forth last night and it sounded to me like he was ready to go, but he’s said September.

“Obviously I don’t know what the world is going to look like in September, but I assume it’s still going to be hard to get people in and out of the country so I am definitely thinking it’s going to be on Fight Island.

“Obviously Gaethje and Khabib is going to happen, looks like that’s going to happen in September,” White said. “And we’ll figure out what’s next for Conor.

"Conor will probably fight this summer, then you have [Gaethje-Khabib] fight in September, and then that will line up a fight up for the winner.”

Meanwhile, McGregor has sent a message of support to Khabib Nurmagomedov's father as he battles a serious illness in Russia.

The Notorious has been involved with a long running feud with the UFC lightweight champion, who he lost to in 2018, but put their rivalry aside to send well wishes to his dad Abdulmanap.

The Dubliner posted on Twitter: "Praying for the recovery of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. A man responsible for more World champions, across multiple fighting disciplines, than we even know.

"A true martial genius!

"Very saddened upon hearing this news tonight.

"Praying for the Nurmagomedov family at this time."

Abdulmanap was hospitalised more than two weeks ago in Dagestan after being diagnosed with pneumonia and flu-like symptoms. He has tested negative for coronavirus.

It is understood he has been transported to a medical facility in Moscow.

UFC President Dana White also sent a message of support to the 57-year-old.

He said in a message posted on UFC.com: "Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov is a true martial artist who lives a life of pride, honor and respect. He instilled those same values in his son, world champion Khabib, at an early age and was always in his corner throughout his career.

"I know how close Khabib is with his father and I’m saddened to hear about his current state. My thoughts are with Abdulmanap and the Nurmagomedov family as he continues to fight."
