Conor McGregor UFC fight news: Notorious open to fighting behind closed doors if comfortable with health and safety

Conor McGregor's manager has indicated that the Dubliner could take part in a bout on the UFC's Fight Island this summer.

The Notorious has a number of options for his next fight, both in MMA and boxing, and recently accepted a challenge from boxing great Oscar De La Hoya.

The UFC hosts it's first event in almost two months this weekend and Audie Attar says McGregor will be tuning in to see how the health and safety of fighters is ensured.

Attar told ESPN: "Conor is very curious to see whether the health and safety of the athletes and staff are ensured. He wants to make sure everyone is taken care of properly."

Attar also stressed that the former two-weight champion would prefer to compete in front of a full arena, but understands that fighting behind closed doors would give people something to look forward to.

He added: "While Conor's desire would be to fight in front of another sold-out crowd, he does understand what him fighting in an empty arena could do for people at home and would consider if he is comfortable with the way the UFC is holding these events from a health and safety standpoint."

The UFC is to hold three events behind closed doors on May 9, 13 and 16 in Jacksonville, Florida before moving its shows to a private island from June.

McGregor made a successful return to action earlier this year when destroying Donald Cerrone in just 40 seconds at UFC 246 in Las Vegas.
