Conor McGregor told to "go to bed" after posting 300-word throwback analysis

Fans have told Conor McGregor to "go to bed" after posting a 300-word reflection on his fight with Donald Cerrone in the early hours of the morning.

Former two-weight UFC champion McGregor, 34, has been more active on social media than in the cage this year as the Irishman continues to recover from the leg break he suffered against Dustin Poirier in his last fight. McGregor's latest post came in the form of a picture from his 40-second knockout win against Cerrone in 2020 in which he broke down the specifics of the finish.

Whilst explaining most fighters willingness to grab a hold of their opponents bodies after scoring a knockdown, McGregor boasted about his accuracy against Cerrone after knocking the UFC veteran down. Fans weren't impressed however, as one user commented: "go to bed, you're drunk".

McGregor also referred to Khabib Nurmagomedov's father Abdulmanap in the post, stating: "Adbulmanap said this fight was like watching magic and he was right. 100 per cent downward ground and pound accuracy." McGregor was slammed for his comments about Abdulmanap after he passed away due to a long battle with Covid-19 in July 2020, despite the coach previously forgiving him for his insults to Khabib and even inviting him for dinner.

Other fans criticised McGregor for his lengthy post and called for him to take his return to the cage more seriously, as one added: "Brother turned into the UFC Shakespeare." Another user told McGregor to reply to Michael Chandler, who called for a fight with McGregor after his loss to Poirier this past weekend, as they commented: "How about you answer Michael Chandler's call out instead of weird throwback posts."

"You post too much, go work and show something," a fourth user commented. By the time McGregor returns to the octagon, almost two years would have passed since his last fight. The Irishman has not been drug tested all year and needs to submit samples for a minimum of six months before being eligible to fight, pushing his return back until May at the earliest.

McGregor is expected to compete at welterweight upon his return after bulking up to 190lb during his time away from the cage. He teased a comeback by writing "the Mac is back" on Instagram last week and UFC boss Dana White told Mirror Fighting of his return: "He's been posting videos of himself training and he's just done filming a movie. He definitely wants to come back next year."
