Conor McGregor told he is wrong with latest claim by UFC fans

Conor McGregor has been told by UFC fans that he is wrong to expect a title shot on his return to the octagon.

The Notorious demanded a fight with lightweight champion Charles Oliveira after the Brazilian's UFC 269 win over Dustin Poirier.

McGregor also slammed Poirier for his "embarrassing" performance whilst replying to Nate Diaz on Twitter and labelled his "closed guard" game in the second round as "shocking".

The Dubliner tweeted a picture of himself wearing a UFC belt captioned: "So what date am I fighting Oliveira?"

It didn't take long for the undisputed champion to reply to McGregor's request, writing: "What do you think about this weekend? I'm ready, I'm still in town, and there's an upcoming event. Let's go baby."

But many people felt McGregor was wrong to demand a title shot given that he lost twice to Poirier this year, meaning he has now tasted defeat in four of his last seven UFC fights.

One fan said: "You couldn't beat Dustin so how could you justify access to fighting Oliveria?"

Another commented: "Wrong! You need to start at the bottom of the rankings and work your way up! You have lost to many fights!"

Someone else tweeted: "A fighter with a record of 1 win & 3 losses in the @ufc in the last 5 years deserves shot at the Title? Lol Riiiiiiggghht ok that makes perfect sense!!!"

But others believe McGregor would beat Oliveira if given the opportunity.

One comment read: "You will KO him in 10 seconds sir."

Another person said: "Chandler dropped Charles in the 1st. Dustin stunned him multiple times. Gaethje or Conor would put him out cold."

One other fan posted: "Rephrase…what date are you gonna give Oliveira a beatdown."

Meanwhile, McGregor's hopes of a title shot when he makes his UFC return have been dealt a blow by Dana White.

When asked if Gaethje would definitely fight Oliveira next, the UFC President replied: "Yeah, it makes sense."

White paid tribute to the Brazilian after his victory at UFC 269.

He added: "“I always thought he was a tough guy. He’s had some bumps along the way.

“Same thing with Poirier.

"But like I said at the press conference the other day, they’re two blue-collar guys that have grinded their way to the top.

"He went in tonight and beat Dustin, Dustin is a very, very tough, durable, well-rounded guy who has a ton of experience. It was a big night for Oliveira."
