Conor McGregor teases "major announcement" ahead of UFC comeback

UFC star Conor McGregor channelled his "inner Steve Jobs" whilst teasing a "major announcement" ahead of his comeback fight.

McGregor, 34, will look for his first UFC win in over three years when he faces Michael Chandler after coaching against him on The Ultimate Fighter later this year. Filming for the UFC's reality TV show will begin "very soon" and the series airs from May to August, with McGregor and Chandler expected to fight after that.

Just days after his comeback fight was announced, McGregor teased a big announcement whilst dressed up in the iconic attire of Apple founder Jobs. Donning a pair of round glasses with a black turtleneck jumper, McGregor posted pictures of him and Jobs on Twitter whilst writing: "Channeling my inner Steve Jobs for a mega announcement tomorrow! Stay tuned."

Fans have since tried their best to guess what the announcement is about, with one user writing: "Documentary on Apple TV?" Another predicted the same by replying: "AppleTV new documentary. Calling it now." A third wrote: "It's going be the documentary airing on Apple TV."

Another theory that emerged was McGregor's voice being included in Siri, which is a virtual assistant that is part of devices operated by Apple. "McGregor about to be the voice of Siri," a user wrote. A second user replied with a mock video that played McGregor's voice when selecting the Irish function on Siri.

McGregor will return for his second stint on The Ultimate Fighter after previously coaching against Urijah Faber on season 22 of the reality show in 2015. It's safe to assume that his comeback fight will take place after mid-August, as that's when the final episode of The Ultimate Fighter season 31 airs on TV.

Despite his comeback fight being announced, McGregor is still not enrolled in the UFC's anti-doping programme. Fighters are required to complete six months of drug-testing before being eligible to fight, however the UFC does have the authority to overpower this rule with "special exemptions".

Chandler confirmed he will be moving up a weight class to fight McGregor at 170lb, which is unsurprising given the former two-weight champion's muscle gain since his last fight. McGregor claimed to have bulked up to 190lb last year and Chandler revealed he weighs around the same before starting his weight loss journey for a fight.

"I'm sitting here at around 190lb right now, I'd love to fight at 170lb. It's fantastic and hopefully it is in Las Vegas. Conor McGregor famously only really fights in Las Vegas, and I want to experience a Vegas fight week. It will be one hundred times different than any other fight," he said on Bussin' with the Boys.
