Conor McGregor steering clear of whiskey in build-up to Dustin Poirier fight

Conor McGregor is keen to avoid making some of the mistakes he made in the build-up to his fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov this time around.

The Notorious one is back in the Octagon for the first time in a year as he takes on Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 on January 23.

And ahead of the fight, he's steering clear of his Proper No 12 whiskey in the build-up - something he has indicated that didn't do in the build-up to his October 2018 fight with former undisputed champ Khabib.

Speaking ahead of his fight against Cerrone last year, McGregor admitted that he was drinking in the build-up to the loss.

But in a social media post over the weekend, he confirmed that he's off the alcohol in the build-up to his rematch with Poirier in just under three weeks.

In the Instagram post, he joked: "Me and @coach_kavanagh keeping each other away from the Proper Twelve this camp".

But a welcome distraction this time around has been McGregor's family.

He and fiancee Dee Devlin announced that they're expecting their third child, while he brought his eldest Conor Jr along to training recently.

And Conor Jr already looks a natural as he showed off his growing skills with McGregor's long-time coaches John Kavanagh and Owen Roddy.

It comes after McGregor and Dee Devlin celebrated their daughter Croia's second birthday.

The two-year-old's birthday comes as the UFC star and Devlin prepare to welcome their third child in the coming months.

Having welcomed their first child, Conor Jr, in May 2017, the pair enjoyed a memorable 2020 that saw them get engaged before annoucing Devlin's pregnancy on Christmas Eve.

And both parents took to Instagram to celebrate the toddler's big day.

McGregor said: "Happy 2nd birthday to my beautiful daughter Croía".

Devlin added: "Happy 2nd Birthday baby girl".
