Tony Ferguson is in a tough spot right now, as he’s just days removed from reportedly turning down on a fight with Max Holloway for the UFC’s interim lightweight title, a title he had stripped from him before.
So one of the best fighters in the UFC is looking for a fight and apparently thought it would be fun to try to engage Conor McGregor with some trash talk on Twitter.
It didn’t go well for him, though, for a number of reasons. First, Ferguson isn’t the greatest trash talker in the UFC. Second, McGregor took a lot of wind out of his sails by replying with a humble message.

That’s probably not the response Ferguson was hoping for from McGregor.
The two fighters have the same management – Paradigm Sport Management, which explains that part of Conor’s reply.
Ferguson has long called McGregor “McNuggets” so Conor’s response about Burger King is a fun play on the endorsement deal he’s had with that fast-food chain.
The rest of the message is just Conor being humble and recognizing that sometimes you’re going to be down and sometimes you’re going to be ahead.
So yeah, Ferguson tried to get Conor into some back-and-forth that might one day lead to a fight and a big pay day. And it would be a fun fight for fans to see.
But it looks like it’s going to take a lot more work for it to happen.
