Conor McGregor shares Dana White messages as he responds to Diego Sanchez challenge

Conor McGregor has shared screenshots of his messages with UFC president Dana White that show he wanted to fight Diego Sanchez in Dublin this year.

The former two-weight champ retired earlier this summer after failing to come to an agreement on his next opponent with the company's top brass during the Covid-19 pandemic.

But as McGregor shared a host of texts sent back and forth between him and White in February, it's clear that McGregor was keen to get a fight in May as well as August this year in a 'season'.

The texts show that White offered McGregor a shot at Justin Gaethje for July before the Covid-19 pandemic took hold of the world, but the Notorious one wanted to fight in May.

It also showed that McGregor wanted to take on veteran Diego Sanchez in Dublin this year, with the 32-year-old responding to the challenge to be his final fight.

In a tweet, McGregor shared the messages saying: "To Diego Sanchez... I seen your recent comments about your final bout and I am in!

"After you fought Pereira, I had requested for myself and you to compete in Dublin. This was back in February when I was working on opposition for my season, pre covid. Good luck this weekend!"

Despite the Notorious one's retirement earlier this year, Sanchez claims that he'll wait around if the former two-weight world champ changes his mind.

"I'm looking for some legend fights," the 38-year-old said at the UFC 253 press conference today.

"Nick Diaz is coming back and there's some other big names - Nate Diaz - there's a lot of big fights that would be appealing for the fans.

"I said I shoot for the moon, Conor McGregor is the number four fight.

"I envision myself dominating these next three fights and finishing my career with Conor McGregor - that's my dream.

"I'll be here waiting if he wants to do it at the end of the road."
