Conor McGregor set for MMA comeback as UFC president Dana White announces January fight

Conor McGregor will headline UFC 246 against Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone on January 18th in Las Vegas, according to UFC president Dana White.

White confirmed that both McGregor and Cerrone had signed a deal to fight - which would see the Irish fighter return to the Octagon for the first time since October 2018.

McGregor, 31, had already confirmed his return, with manager Audie Attar discussing the possible bout earlier this month.

The former two-weight champion will face the American at the T-Mobile Arena in a non-title welterweight bout, with White confirming that McGregor has already signed his end of the deal and that Cerrone had agreed to the fight.

"Conor has signed and Cowboy is ready to go," White told ESPN.

The Dubliner's return had been plunged into doubt when the UFC released their event schedule for 2020, with no sign of the comeback fight.

McGregor was submitted by bitter rival Khabib Nurmagomedov the last time he stepped into the cage, and had previously suggested he would call it a day but has now set his sights on winning back his world title ahead of the fight against Cerrone.
