Conor McGregor sends message to Mike Tyson as boxer plans for ring return

Conor McGregor has vowed to beat Floyd Mayweather in a message he sent to boxing great Mike Tyson.

Iron Mike is planning on returning to the ring at the age of 53 and The Notorious has promised to get the better of Mayweather in a rematch.

Replying to a tweet in which Tyson praised McGregor for the boxing skills he showed in his 2017 bout with Mayweather, the Dubliner said: “Thank you Mike, and just know that for the inevitable rematch, with the knowledge I now hold of Floyd’s style, plus under the tutelage of my old school boxing coach, I will crack the puzzle, and I will beat Floyd. I promise my life on it. It is great to see you back Iron Mike.”

Meanwhile, UFC President Dana White has confirmed the promotion are planning for Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje to fight in September - and to have McGregor take on the winner.

White indicated that after a conversation with The Eagle, the promotion are setting up the massive September showdown with the American after his stunning UFC 249 victory over top contender Tony Ferguson.

And with McGregor set to fight at some point during the summer, the plan is that the Dubliner will be waiting for the winner.

“I actually talked to Khabib today, Khabib told me he’d be ready in September," White told Canadian radio.

“Earlier today, I had said [he could fight] this summer, because we were texting back and forth last night and it sounded to me like he was ready to go, but he’s said September.

“Obviously I don’t know what the world is going to look like in September, but I assume it’s still going to be hard to get people in and out of the country so I am definitely thinking it’s going to be on Fight Island.

“Obviously Gaethje and Khabib is going to happen, looks like that’s going to happen in September,” White said. “And we’ll figure out what’s next for Conor.

"Conor will probably fight this summer, then you have [Gaethje-Khabib] fight in September, and then that will line up a fight up for the winner.”
