Conor McGregor sends message to Dee Devlin as he prepares for Dustin Poirier trilogy fight away from his family

Conor McGregor has vowed to bust Dustin Poirier up in their trilogy fight next month, telling his fiancee Dee Devlin that he'll "be back in a few weeks".

The Notorious is preparing for the Las Vegas bout away from his family, previously stating that he wants to go into the fight "a wild dog".

McGregor is currently in California with his long-time coaches John Kavanagh and Owen Roddy, with Dee Devlin and the couple's three children understood to be in Dubai.

Sending a message to his fiancee on social media, the former two-weight champion said: "I’ll be back in a few weeks my sweetheart. Just going to bust a man up. Tell the kids daddy loves them."

McGregor is favourite with the bookies to avenge his January loss to Poirier, but the Dubliner has been accused of looking for a way out of that bout after just three minutes by Chael Sonnen.

The former UFC star said on his podcast 'Beyond the Fight': "There's a certain edge that certain fighters have. There's a certain anger and hostility that they bring to the ring.

"It's the very reason that they coined the phrase 'a rich man can't fight', because he's generally not angry, he's generally having a pretty good day, he doesn't have that edge.

"It's very relevant whether Conor finds it or not, because the Conor vs Poirier fight wasn't what you guys saw and the fans wouldn't understand this but every fighter did.

"That fight was over three minutes in, Conor was looking for the door, he just couldn't find it, but he was looking to get out of that fight.

"The reason every fighter can recognise it is that we have all done it, and we're all ashamed of it, but there's a look that a fighter has."

The winner of the UFC 264 main event is expected to face newly crowned lightweight champion Charles Oliveira for the belt later in the year.

The Brazilian told MMA Fighting recently: "I think everybody knows we’ll wait for Conor and Dustin [to fight] and the next challenger will be whoever wins.

"I’ll go back to training eyeing that, waiting for the next opponent. I’ll enjoy the moment, a unique moment in my life, and wait for this fight to happen to see who’s next.

"There’s not much they can do [other than that], there’s nowhere to go. I think that’s the fight to make, so I’ll wait and see what happens. I’m enjoying the moment, but I won’t stop training.

"It’s going to be a great fight. Honestly, to me, it doesn’t matter.

"Whoever wins, I know it’s going to be a great fight. It makes no difference to me. Let’s wait."
