Conor McGregor says worldwide domination next after selling majority stake of whiskey company in €500m deal

Conor McGregor has claimed worldwide domination is next after selling a majority share of his whiskey company in a whopping deal said to be worth €500 million.

The Notorious only launched Proper No. Twelve Irish whiskey less than three years ago.

But its success has prompted Proximo Spirits, a company that owns Jose Cuervo and other alcohol brands, to fork out the huge sum for a majority stake in the company.

€500 million will go to 32-year-old McGregor, his agent Audie Attar and their partner Ken Austin.

Reacting to the news on social media, the Dubliner, who will retain an interest in the company, said: "Wow!! In just under 3 years, we went from a dream to the biggest Irish Whiskey in the world!

"A HUGE step for Proper No. Twelve today as we now forge ahead to the next phase of our company's history!

"Thanks to my Irish Whiskey fans all across the globe! Proper Twelve is my baby for life, and I am just warming up the barrels here! What I have in store for you all will not only take Proper Twelve to the absolute pinnacle of Irish Whiskey! But of all spirits!
Next stop - Worldwide domination!!!

"I wake up each day with focus, drive, and a commitment to be the best in sport and in business - and the money follows.  Never count me out!"

The company is said to have sold over 6 million bottles across the world in its first two and a half years of business.

Mike Keyes, President & CEO of Proximo, said on the deal: “When we launched, the Irish whiskey market was dominated by one brand. Now, Proper No. Twelve has disrupted the category and has become a leading brand in the industry.

"We are thrilled with what we and our partners have achieved in growing Proper No. Twelve to this point, and we look forward to continued success together.

"This agreement also demonstrates Proximo’s commitment to expand its presence in the fastest-growing segments of the spirits industry.”

McGregor will face Dustin Poirier for a third time this summer after suffering a shock defeat to the American in January.
