Conor McGregor is just days away from a return to the Octagon against Dustin Poirier at UFC 257, but he's already got his eyes on a massive rematch in the future.
The Notorious one headlines UFC 257 on Saturday night as he makes his return to the cage against Poirier in Abu Dhabi.
But it's one of the big stories to emerge from Fight Island this week that's caught the Dubliner's attention in the build-up.
McGregor has crossed paths with one of his former opponents in Max Holloway as the featherweight put on one of the best performances of his career last Saturday at Fight Island.
The Hawaiian put on a boxing masterclass on his way to a win over Calvin Kattar and afterwards expressed his desire to get another shot at McGregor.
And in reply, the 32-year-old left no doubts in fans' minds about whether the fight could happen.
“I thought it was a solid performance,” McGregor told The Mac Life.
“He fought an up-and-comer; he done well. I was actually doing an interview and he skateboarded by the window. I was like, ‘Is that Max Holloway?’ He’s obviously hanging around, and fair play to him.
"He’s definitely in the pipeline for a bout against me. I would happily rematch Max, and after a performance like that, he’s put himself right up there.”
Holloway's performance even led to UFC commentator Daniel Cormier comparing 'Blessed' to boxing legend Muhammad Ali.
Such his dominance, Holloway caught the headlines for a mid fight boast that saw him shout 'I'm the best boxer in UFC' while throwing a vicious right hand and then ducking and swerving clear from a Kattar counter.
But McGregor is out to disprove that claim this weekend against 'The Diamond'.
“He’s not the best boxer,” McGregor insisted. “It’s no question, and I’ll prove that on (Saturday). Let’s see what he says Sunday morning.”
The pair fought in Boston back in 2013 during McGregor's rise to stardom, with the SBG star scoring a decision victory.
However, McGregor insists that Holloway would have to make the jump up to Lightweight rather than McGregor cutting down.
“He’s a tall lad,” McGregor said.
“He’s taller than me, so he could build up. He’s only fought at 155 once. It was against Dustin. He was a bit out-powered, but he could certainly do it. Against other lightweights? You never know. But the rematch would be 155, for sure.”
