Conor McGregor's teammate Artem Lobov rejects YouTube fights after retirement

Conor McGregor's old teammate Artem Lobov has retired from MMA, but that hasn't stopped offers coming in for bouts against YouTube stars looking for a fight.

The former UFC featherweight announced last year that he was hanging up his gloves, but he is still being sent prospective deals, including bouts with social media sensations across Europe.

Lobov is one of the most beloved fighters in the sport, having amassed a 14-15-1 record during his 11-year career, as well as competing in bare-knuckle boxing.

He defeated Paulie Malignaggi in a bare-knuckle bout in 2019, but hadn't won since when he decided to quit combat sports last year after the birth of his son.

And he has been turning down some of the biggest offers of his career to face YouTube stars in Poland and Russia in an effort to stay true to his word.

"I still have offers," Lobov revealed during an episode of The MMA Hour. "There are still offers in my inbox.

"A lot of these offers have been with YouTubers, in Russia and I had an offer from Poland as well to box a YouTuber there.

"It's kind of like wow, I used to fight really tough guys for €100-500, now I'm getting offered to box exhibition bouts against guys who aren't even that good and I have to turn it down.

"I have to ask myself 'are you a man of your word or not?' When I look in the mirror, and there's no in between with that.

"With fighters you have good guys, bad guys, and then you have guys in between, but with your word it means everything or it's worth nothing."

Some of the contracts that have been put to Lobov have been almost too good to turn down, particularly given the level of opponent.

But he has set just two caveats to his retirement from the sport, and has promised to make it in another field.

The opportunities that would drag him back to fighting are finally being offered over €1million for a fight, or a bout with long-time rival Zubaira Tukhugov in the UFC.

"Actually, I have got some of the better offers since I retired," he continued. "I couldn't believe it there were offers coming up to nearly half-a-million.

"I've got some s*** offers as well, but I have got a lot of offers so I just said to myself, I promised 'Artem you will not go back in there no matter what'.

"Make it elsewhere now, it doesn't matter what happens, how much you want to get back in there, do not go back in there.

"There's only two ways that I go back fighting; a fight with [Zubaira] Tukhugov I don't care if I'm retired or not I always want that fight no matter what, and if somebody wants to make my dream come true and offer me seven figures.

"That would change things up, a lot of the issues I've mentioned for my retirement would not be playing such a big part any more.

"Seven figures could allow you to set up your financial future for the family and that's a big thing for me of course and would open up a lot of doors."
