Conor McGregor's sister Erin has hailed her brother as inspirational after his gruesome UFC 264 loss to Dustin Poirier.

McGregor was subjected to an early night after he broke his ankle in the first round of Sunday morning's bout.

And the loss means the Crumlin man has only won once since 2016.

And McGregor's sister Erin jumped to his defence with the former Dancing With The Stars contestant calling her brother an inspiration.

Posting on Instagram, Erin said: "You've given so much and more to so many people @notoriousmma.

"You've taken so many on this journey with u & raised the game, watching u has been inspirational, motivational. Sending u love & a speedy recovery #teammcgregor FOREVER"

The Dubliner is due to undergo surgery sometime on Sunday after his fight was stopped due to his ankle injury.

McGregor took to social media to send a defiant message after his loss to rival Poirier.

The former double champion shared a pictured being stretchered out of the UFC Arena saying: "You need people like me."
