Conor McGregor's rival explains why he is a "nightmare" for UFC legend

Michael Chandler has already stoked the fire with Conor McGregor, claiming he would be a "nightmare" for the Irishman.

Chandler will make his much anticipated UFC debut when he faces Dan Hooker in the co-main event at UFC 257.

On the same night McGregor will return to the Octagon and take on Dustin Poirier.

Chandler's pedigree means he is very much in line for a title shot having been the back-up for Khabib Nurmagomedov’s fight with Justin Gaethje at UFC 254.

Should both he and McGregor win on “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi later this month then a match-up could be in the pipeline.

And already Chandler is talking up his chances, stating that his style would be tough for the Notorious one to deal with.

"Of course I want my name in that storyline," he told ESPN.

"Of course I want my name attached to his. Of course I want that possible fight. Do I think I match up extremely well against Conor? Absolutely.

"With my wrestling background, plus the power in my hands, plus my ability to mix up the striking with the takedowns, plus my ability to push the pace.

"I think I am a nightmare for Conor, but I respect what Conor is doing. I think Conor is continuing to come into his own."

Speculation continues over a possible return for Khabib, with a match up touted against McGregor.

The Russian retired after defeating Gaethje but has not vacated his belt meaning the lightweight division remains unclear.

UFC President Dana White is due to meet with Khabib to discuss his plans moving forward which should shed some light on how things will take shape.
