Conor McGregor's long history of deleted tweets after latest tirade

UFC superstar Conor McGregor is known for tweeting, and then often deleting, controversial and expletive-fuelled rants directed at his rivals.

That was again the case this week, when McGregor posted now-deleted tweets targeting Khabib Nurmagomedov, Dustin Poirier and his wife Jolie.

When Khabib congratulated Poirier on his recent win over McGregor, stating: "Good always defeats evil", McGregor made a tasteless joke that appeared to mock Khabib's late father and coach, Abdulmanap.

"Covid is good and father is evil?" McGregor wrote.

The Irishman shared several claims as to why Poirier's UFC 264 victory against him was invalid and told Poirier's wife: "Stay out of my DM's b****."

Here, we take a look at four other occasions McGregor went on a tweet-and-delete spree...

1. "Gonezo"

After McGregor's loss to Poirier in their trilogy at UFC 264, he posted screenshots of Poirier and fellow UFC fighter Mateusz Gamrot in training seemingly mocking McGregor's injury.

What was more concerning was McGregor also tweeted a zoomed in picture of Poirier with his four-year-old daughter.

The tweets began to get more aggressive with McGregor saying "I’m a dangerous man," "I'm a nasty dude I promise you," and "Gonezo".

2. Corsica arrest

Last September, McGregor was arrested on suspicion of attempted sexual assault and indecent exposure on the island of Corsica.

This prompted McGregor to post some worrying tweets. When replying to a user who had ‘Certified Suicide Intervention Specialist’ in the profile of her bio, McGregor spoke of the bad state he was in.

“Suicide intervention yet ridiculing me in this manner online, at this horrendous time in my life. I am trying to stay strong for my kids and the people that rely on me and that love and support me. Thanks for the insults, hypocrite," he said.

He went on to write: “I can’t go on like this man. I am crushed here.”

The case was dropped by French police in April due to insufficient evidence.

3. Khabib's wife

Six months after McGregor's UFC 229 loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov, it was clear the heated rivalry between the two fighters was far from over.

Mocking a picture of Khabib's wife, who was photographed wearing a traditional veil on their wedding day, McGregor tweeted: "Your wife is a towel mate".

McGregor wasn't done there later following up on his original tweet, stating : "Plot twist, it's a goat under that towel."

Khabib's manager, Ali Abdelaziz, went on to call McGregor a "r*****" and slammed him for insulting all muslims around the world.

"Talking s***, this guy is insulting someone’s wife and making fun of her religion and belief.

" He doesn’t realise he’s insulting 1.5 billon Muslims. Religion and family is a no no. You’re f***** Connor, let’s see what the media is going to say now. He’s a r*****, and a b****" Abdelaziz wrote.

4. Mocking Khabib's cousin

When Khabib's cousin, Abubakar Nurmagomedov, made his UFC debut in November 2019, he suffered a first round submission loss.

McGregor took straight to social media to mock Abubakar for being a "quitter".

"Nurmagotaptap," he wrote. "Hahahah sh**ebags.

"He tapped his forehead. If you can tap his forehead, you can punch his forehead. He quit. One quitter exposed. Abubakar Nurmagotaptap.

"Console him, then tell him he's cut."

McGregor punched Abuabakar during the post-fight brawl after UFC 229, causing a laceration and bruising on the face of the Russian.
