Conor McGregor's I'm A Celebrity odds slashed after third MMA retirement

The odds on ring warrior Conor McGregor heading into the I'm A Celebrity jungle have been slashed after his latest retirement announcement.

The Irish fighter claims to have called it quits for the third time in four years.

The former two-weight UFC champion dropped the news on  Twitter immediately after Amanda Nunes defeated Felicia Spencer to retain her featherweight title at UFC 250 in Las Vegas.

Conor is keen for a career away from the sport - and breaking into television is said to be a priority.

Now he could be swapping the ring for the bush camp, according to one leading bookmaker.

But it could all depend on the size of the cheque on offer with the star worth nearly £90million.

Ladbrokes now make him an 8/1 chance to head Down Under later this year.

The bookie's Jessica O'Reilly said: "McGregor would be a box office signing if ITV bosses can afford him and he swaps the octagon for the jungle."

If he agreed, the 31-year-old will not be the only sports star on the show.

Former Liverpool footballer John Barnes is set to be one of them joining the line-up for the next series.

But Joe Wicks has already said no to the Jungle and Strictly after the fitness fanatic was linked.

Corrie's Beverley Callard, football legend Eric Cantona and dancer Aj Pritchard are among the signings being tipped for the next series.

McGregor  posted a picture of himself and his mum celebrating one of his world title wins as he announced he was hanging up his gloves.

He tweeted: "Hey guys I've decided to retire from fighting. Thank you all for the amazing memories! What a ride it's been!

"Here is a picture of myself and my mother in Las Vegas post one of my world title wins! Pick the home of your dreams Mags I love you! Whatever you desire it's yours."

But his fans question if he has retired for real having twice gone back on his decision before.
