Conor McGregor's honest message to fans after shock loss to Dustin Poirier

Conor McGregor thanked his fans for their support after his shock loss to Dustin Poirier this morning at UFC 257.

The MMA world was stunned this morning after he was floored by the American in the second-round of their Abu Dhabi bout.

The first knockout defeat of McGregor's MMA career, fans were shocked as his eagerly anticipated comeback ended in disappointment.

McGregor - who needed crutches to fulfil his post-fight media duties - opened up in an honest message to fans.

The Dublin fighter said he was looking forward to a rematch with Poirier as he shared a picture that showed him nursing a calf injury on his luxury yacht.

Taking to Instagram, he wrote: "Thanks for the support everyone! Was not my night/morning in there but a great contest to improve on. I’m excited at the blockbuster trilogy I now have on my hands.

"Dustin is a hell of a competitor and I look forward to going again. Elevating the leg and the spirit on my way home! God bless us all, happy Sunday".

Meanwhile, McGregor admitted that the defeat is 'hard to take' in a post-fight interview.

“It’s heart-breaking and hard to take,” said 32-year-old McGregor. “My leg is completely dead. It’s like an American football in my suit at the minute.

“If you put in the time in here, you’re going to get cosy in here and I just have to dust it off and come back and that’s what I will do. I need activity, you don’t get away with being inactive in this business.

“As long as you stay active and as long as you compete, things shape around you. You show up, you reap the rewards. That’s what happened for Dustin and it’s what’s happened against me.

“I’ll keep my eyes on the prize. Don’t write me off yet, I’ll make my adjustments and keep moving. I’ll go back, get healthy and I’ll re-prepare. I’ve got to a great place in my body physically and I’ll continue to grow that.”
