Conor McGregor's coach "would love" to work with Logan and Jake Paul

Conor McGregor's coach John Kavanagh has said that he "would love" to work with brothers Logan and Jake Paul if they made the switch from boxing to mixed martial arts.

The YouTube siblings are two of the most divisive figures in combat sports, and have drawn the ire of many in the MMA world, particularly after Jake brutally knocked out top UFC stars Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley in the boxing ring.

And Kavanagh, who was himself involved in an outlandish crossover fight in 2017 when McGregor took on Floyd Mayweather, would welcome the brothers to his Dublin headquarters.

Younger brother Jake is establishing himself as a boxer with a 5-0 professional record which includes four KOs, while his older sibling is better known for gimmick matches, but had a top high school wrestling career before finding social media fame.

"If Jake walked through the doors I'd tell him to sign up, pay his fees and get on the mat," Kavanagh told Mirror Fighting at a fundraiser for paralysed MMA fighter Ian Coughlan in his Dublin gym.

"He would be very welcome here, I'd love him to come by and train here, I've heard he's got a great energy, he's a great character."

But Kavanagh admits that given Logan's background in wrestling, he would rather work with the elder brother.

The elder Paul he was an impressive high school wrestler and was heading for more success at Ohio University before dropping out to pursue YouTube fame in Los Angeles

Jake was a more modest wrestler, focusing his efforts more on football during his school days, and dropping out before graduating from high school due to his internet career.

"I think I'd probably get along with Logan a bit easier," Kavanagh continued. "He seems a bit more calm.

"That's the one who did some wrestling with Paolo Costa, he looked good.

"I watched that and it was only a few seconds but you could tell he's got some moves.

"So maybe he could come in and if he's okay then we'll allow the brother to come along!"

Both brothers have teased a move to MMA in the past, with the younger Paul claiming he would "for sure" make the move once he's legitimised himself in boxing.

And the elder Paul even had a meeting with Bellator president Scott Coker about a possible switch in 2020, although he has since poured cold water on a possible fight.

Jake claimed in the build-up to his vicious sixth-round stoppage over Tyron Woodley that when he did make the switch to MMA that he would be trained at the American Kickboxing Academy with Khabib Nurmagomedov and Javier Mendez.

"I don’t see why – if I can do boxing at this high of a level – that I couldn’t do MMA at this high of a level," Paul told reporters in Florida last week.

"I'm going to go and get coached up by Javier Mendez, Team Khabib, and that’s that. They’re down, 100 per cent.”

But given his interest in an eventual match-up with McGregor, it could be beneficial to take to the mats with Kavanagh, who also trains UFC star Johnny Walker and Bellator title contenders Sinead Kavanagh and Peter Queally.

Kavanagh was speaking at an event to help raise funds for MMA fighter Ian Coughlan, who was left paralysed by an horrific training injury while preparing for a bout. You can donate to the cause by clicking here.
