Conor McGregor's coach John Kavanagh shares emotional message after UFC 257 loss

John Kavanagh showed his support for Conor McGregor following his shock loss to Dustin Poirier overnight in Abu Dhabi.

Plenty has changed since McGregor's octagon debut way back in 2013, but his coach and long-time pal remains a key man in the McGregor camp.

Straight Blast Gym guru Kavanagh was philosophical after watching his fighter fall to defeat in the desert and posted a picture of the pair embracing.

Taking to Instagram, he wrote: "Only those who never stand up, never fall down."

UFC boss Dana White isn't sure if McGregor will look to come straight back from the second-round TKO defeat, although judging by McGregor's comments, a trilogy fight with Poirier is on the cards.

"I think it'll make him hungrier," White said.

"There's two ways this goes; Hungrier or 'I'm done'. He's got the money.

"When you get off a 310 foot yacht and you're living that good life, it's tough to be a savage when you're living like he lives and has the money that he has.

"On his way up he was a young hungry kid, he didn't have any money and he wanted nice things - nice suits, nice cars, nice houses.

"He's got everything he ever wanted, so I don't know, it goes this way or that way."

A post-fight conversation between Poirier and McGregor was caught on camera, during which the Dublin scrapper confirmed his desire to make the trilogy fight.

"We'll do it again," McGregor vowed.

"Hey, respect man," was Poirier's reply.

McGregor went on to praise his opponent for avenging the defeat he suffered when the pair last met in 2014, adding: "I'm very happy for you Dustin, you're a f***ing warrior, you've got passion, courage, everything.

"It takes a lot of courage to get in against a man after what happened in the first fight."
