Conor McGregor reveals gruelling training regime for Dustin Poirier fight

Conor McGregor has revealed details of his gruelling training routine for the Dustin Poirier fight on January 23.

The Notorious has completed over six hours of sparring in the last six weeks as he ramps up preparations for a second meeting with the man he defeated back in 2014.

Sharing a snap of training on Instagram, the former two-weight champion wrote: "Word just back from the team at @claymoreproductions.

"In the last 6 weeks of my training, I’ve completed 375 minutes of Sparring.

"This equates to 75x5 minute rounds. Or 15 championship MMA fights.

"My last fight lasted 40seconds. This is why though.

"Traenáil troid. Crua éasca."

American ace Poirier is at a training camp in Florida, while McGregor, 32, is getting ready for the fight with a private camp in Portugal.️

The Crumlin cage-fighter flew training partners, coaches and family members to the Algarve as he gears up for his return to action in the new year.

When McGregor last met Poirier during his thrilling rise to superstardom, he finished 'The Diamond' within the first round in Las Vegas.

The Dubliner famously went on to become a two-weight world champion while Poirier, now 31, eventually bounced back from that defeat to become one of the top fighters in the UFC roster.

He is ranked No 7 in the latest UFC pound-for-pound rankings, while McGregor, who demolished veteran Donald Cerrone last January, is ranked No 11.
