Conor McGregor reunites with old boxing coach ahead of comeback

Conor McGregor has been pictured with his old boxing coach Phil Sutcliffe Sr as he gears up for a return to action next year.

Sutcliffe brought the Irishman into combat sports when he was a youngster, training him at the Crumlin Boxing Club until he decided to move to SBG Ireland and focus on MMA.

And he was drafted back into the Irishman's fold in 2019 as he was preparing for his octagon return against Donald Cerrone, and a potential boxing match with Manny Pacquiao.

McGregor has been in America for the last few months after getting surgery on a broken leg he suffered in his trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier, but he returned to Ireland this week.

And he met with Sutcliffe, who wasn't a part of his team for the third fight with Poirier with McGregor favouring more MMA-centric minds, at his pub the Black Forge Inn.

The pair likely haven't spent much time together for the better part of the year, with the former two-weight UFC champion going almost straight into his martial arts-heavy camp after losing his rematch with Poirier in January.

But they were all smiles as they cosied up at McGregor's new Dublin hotspot, where he was recently spotted arriving in his €200,000 Bentley.

McGregor treated Sutcliffe to a meal worth €150, as the pair celebrated his birthday a couple of weeks ahead of the November 10 date.

And the pair shared a drink, with two-time Olympian Sutcliffe having a pint of stout while McGregor had a glass of Proper 12 whiskey.

McGregor hasn't returned to full contact training yet, having suffered the horrific injury as recently as July 10, but he has insisted he will return to the octagon next year.

There is no timeline for his return, but he is likely to attend his first MMA fight since the injury on Friday next week when his friend Peter Queally fights for the Bellator title at the 3Arena.

Queally will take on Patricky Pitbull for the vacant lightweight world title, and it is expected that the Irishman will be in attendance at the Dublin fight night.

The Irishman was on holiday in Rome last week with his family to christen his son Rian and collect his £2.6 million Lamborghini yacht.

He returned to Europe after an extended stay in America, where he stayed at the Beverley Hills Hotel with fiancee Dee Devlin and kids Conor Jr, Croia and Rian.

They based themselves in the plush Los Angeles hotspot, where McGregor met with celebrities like Justin Bieber, but also managed to get around the country.

Devlin and McGregor travelled to New York for the MTV Video Music Awards, before they went to Chicago where they took in a baseball game at Wrigley Field.

And before heading back to Ireland, via Italy, they spent a few weeks as a family in Miami, Florida, where McGregor was presented with a key to the city by the mayor of Miami.
