Conor McGregor retires: The highs and lows of the Notorious' career

Conor McGregor has seemingly called time on a fighting career that has seen him dominate headlines in and out of the octagon. 

Like him or loathe him - the Notorious has always lived up to his nickname during a rollercoaster journey.

Here are the some of the highs and lows of the one of the world's most famous sports stars:

Highs

Dublin rising

July 2014

It was at the 3 Arena in Dublin nearly five years ago when McGregor first caught national attention by finishing Diego Brandao in the first round of the main event.

World champion

December 2015

The Dubliner's stock soared when he took just 13 seconds to knock out Jose Aldo who boasted a 10-year unbeaten streak to become a world champion. 

Diaz revenge

August 2016

Five months on from a shock first defeat in the UFC to Nate Diaz, McGregor returned to Las Vegas and won one of the best fights the sport has seen.

November 2016

The biggest drawer in the UFC became only the third ever two-weight world champion when stopping Eddie Alvarez to win the lightweight crown.

€100m payday

McGregor was no match for boxing legend Mayweather in the ring but the Las Vegas showdown earned the former apprentice plumber a staggering €100m.

Lows

Cage Rage

November 2017

McGregor got past security and jumped into the cage to celebrate his stablemate Charlie Ward's victory in Dublin and caused uproar.

Bus attack

April 2018

The UFC star was arrested after throwing a hand truck at a bus carrying several fighters, including Russian foe Khabib Nurmagomedov, at a media day in Boston.

October 2018

It was billed as one of the biggest fights in UFC history but McGregor was distraught after he was outshone by his Russian nemesis in Las Vegas.

November 2018

McGregor already had 12 previous convictions for road traffic matters when he was slapped with a six month ban and €1,000 fine for driving at 154km/h in a 100km/h zone.

Alleged hone attack

March 2019

The 30-year-old was charged with robbery after allegedly stamping on a fan's mobile phone on a beach in Miami.
