UFC superstar Conor McGregor is “relieved” after all charges against were dropped after being accused of stamping on a fan’s mobile phone.
The Irish fighter, who recently announced he had retired from the sport before reversing the decision, was charged with robbery by sudden snatching and criminal mischief.
The case was set to go to trial on Monday at Miami-Dade County Court but ”nolle pros” has beend recorded on the court’s online system alongside the charges, meaning the trial will not go ahead.
The alleged incident took place outside the Fontainebleau Hotel on March 11.
McGregor’s lawyer Sam Rabin told Irish broadcaster RTE: “This case was officially dropped today. The case is over.”
He said his client is “relieved”, adding: “He feels he should not have been arrested but he believes that this is a just and fair resolution.”
The phone in question was valued at $1,000 (£760).
"The victim of the crime does not wish to return to the United States and prosecute this case," Prosecutor Khalil Madani told the Miami court on Monday.
A former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion, McGregor has become one of the sport’s biggest stars and a global celebrity.
According to Forbes he is worth around 100 million US dollars (£75 million), while his social media accounts show a life lived in luxury on private jets and behind the wheels of high-performance cars.
