Conor McGregor reacts to his position in latest UFC pound-for-pound rankings

Conor McGregor joked about his 11th-place ranking after the UFC's latest pound-for-pound list was released.

The list saw Khabib Nurmagomedov rise to the top of the rankings - replacing Jon Jones in the No 1 spot following Saturday's submission of Justin Gaethje, which saw the Russian announce his retirement.

The latest table saw Gaethje drop to No 10, one spot ahead of McGregor. The Dubliner's next opponent Dustin Poirier is ranked seventh.

Khabib reacted on social media, saying: "It was work of my life, I never got anything easy, and nothing was given to me because I'm nice guy.

"Hard work, hope for Allah and patience, this three ingredient helps me to get successful, and of course, control and advises from my Father, who invested in me a lot of time and work."

McGregor, meanwhile, joked that 11th position stood for 'Double 1' on the list.

He tweeted: "Yes! Double 1 on the pound for pound list! Awesome! #ChampChamp"

Nurmagomedov retires with a record of 29-0 having submitted Gaethje, Poirier and McGregor in his final three fights.

He revealed on Saturday that he had promised his mother he would not continue to fight without his father who passed away earlier this year after contracting Covid-19.

McGregor and Poirier - who The Notorious defeated back in 2014 - are now likely to fight for the vacant belt when they clash in a rematch on January 23.

McGregor, meanwhile, is training ahead of his UFC return. The 32-year-old shared a clip of his practice with team-mate Cian Cowley as he ramps up his preparations.
