Conor McGregor promises to ditch the booze after fans' concerns

Conor McGregor has vowed to ditch the booze ahead of his UFC return later this year.

The Notorious has been sidelined since suffering a horror leg break in his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier last summer.

But he is expected to return to the octagon this summer, with a bout at UFC 276 on July 2 a possibility.

McGregor has been spending a lot of time at his Black Forge Inn recently, sharing numerous photos of him drinking pints and whiskey.

But he has promised to stop drinking alcohol when he gets into full training again "very soon".

"Sitting in actual awe at present, can’t quite describe it," he wrote. "Last week, Saturday, the first day Ireland became free from restriction, and also coincidentally the anniversary of the late Arthur Guinness, Forged Irish Stout outsold Guinness on premise for the first time and everyday since!

"Forged Irish Stout is now the clear leader in stout sales for us! All of us in this industry know, for a stout to do this is just unprecedented! Incredible! The fact it happened for the first time on that day in particular, I feel it a sign that I am on the right path here with all of this! Onwards and upwards we go!

"For my fighting fans, I want to say I know I am enjoying myself with my liquid, but very soon I will be immersing my self in full training again with complete abstention from my wonderful creations of spirit and ale. Just 5 more minutes Ma."

The post comes after a number of McGregor's fans expressed concerns that he was spending too much time in his Dublin pub in recent weeks.

The former two-weight champion's potential opponents have slowly but surely been themselves matched up with lightweight champion Charles Oliveira taking on Justin Gaethje in May.

And contenders Michael Chandler and Tony Ferguson are also expected to meet in the coming months.

McGregor could fight the winner of that fight - or take on long-time rival Nate Diaz in their long-awaited trilogy bout.

"I think so, yeah," UFC president Dana White told TMZ when he was asked if McGregor will return in 2022.

"He’s doing all the right things with his leg. I’m hoping he can come back this summer."
