Conor McGregor phone smashing case dropped by prosecutors in Florida

Prosecutors in Florida have dropped a case against MMA star Conor McGregor over an alleged phone-smashing incident.

Crumlin man McGregor has had his charges dropped relating to the snatching of a fan's mobile phone.

It was due to go ahead today but the court heard that the alleged victim had withdrawn statements that he had given to police.

UFC superstar McGregor, 30, was accused of smashing and stealing a fan's phone outside a Miami Beach hotel.

He was arrested on March 11 with police stating the alleged victim was taking a picture of McGregor outside a hotel when he slapped the man's phone out of his hand.

McGregor, who was not required to appear in court, is alleged to have stamped on the phone several times before walking away with it.

The fan settled a civil lawsuit with McGregor and the State Attorney’s Office said he stopped cooperating with investigators.

Prosecutor Khalil Madani said: "The victim of the crime does not wish to return to the United States and prosecute this case."
