Conor McGregor has been left ‘heartbroken’ following the death of his beloved dog, Hugo, who has been his companion for the last 10 years.
The MMA professional shared a series of photos of the dog with him and his family on Instagram last night, announcing the sad news.
Hugo had been beside McGregor throughout his rise to fame, from when he had nothing to the champion fighter he is today.
Sharing the news with his 42.7 million followers, he said: “So heartbroken to say my dog Hugo has passed away. He was with me all the way, my closest companion.
"From sleeping on a bed frame without a mattress to everything else that came after.”
The snapshots captured Conor and Hugo’s unbreakable bond, from training together, to looking after his three children.
One photo saw Hugo watching Conor riding an exercise bike outdoors, keeping a close eye on one of his children sat in a pram.
Others saw Hugo spotting his dad in the gym, and going out for a walk with Conor Jr. holding the leash.
The 33-year-old added: “Thank you for all the work put in alongside me to get this life correct for our family.
" All the love and cuddles we will miss forever and ever our Hugo! Gutted. RIP the best boy Hugo McGregor.”
Comments of condolences flooded in from friends, family and fans with Irish footballing coach Robbie Keane writing: “I know how you feel pal.”
Friend and fellow fighter Dillon Danis added: “Sorry brother, he will be missed.”
McGregor also posted a collection of photos and videos of the dog to his Instagram story, with one dated as early as 2011, when Hugo was just a puppy.
He later shared a video to his grid of Hugo lounging on a sofa with Ed Sheeran ’s ‘Runaway’ playing over it.
He captioned the clip: “We got there in the end my boy.”
