Conor McGregor pays tribute following death of Khabib Nurmagomedov's father

Conor McGregor put rivalries aside and paid tribute to Khabib Nurmagomedov's father Abdulmanap following his death aged 57.

The ace fighter's dad - a renowned mixed martial arts coach - died from complications due to coronavirus today.

Recently retired McGregor took to Twitter to share his own tribute as a host of UFC fighters paid their respects to the lightweight champion's father.

He tweeted: "The loss of a father, a coach, and a dedicated supporter of the sport. Condolences and rest in peace Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov."

Abdulmanap has been credited with turning undefeated Russian Khabib into one of the sport's all-time greats.

McGregor's coach John Kavanagh called him a 'genius of combat sports'.

"Very sorry to hear of the passing of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov," Kavanagh tweeted.

"A genius of combat sports and absolute inspiration to so many up and coming fighters.

"Sadly only entering his prime of coaching such a loss and tragedy. RIP and best wishes to his family during this difficult time."

Straight Blast Gym fighter Peter Queally credited Abdulmanap with saving him from a frightening situation after a recent fight in Russia, saying: "RIP Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.

"In my last fight in Russia the crowd started attacking the cage after I won, it was turning into a scary situation, my safety seemed in genuine danger.

"Abdulmanap came into the cage & settled things very quickly. He seemed like a great man."
