Conor McGregor outlines ambitious seven-fight schedule ahead of UFC return

Conor McGregor is planning to fight seven times in the next 18 months as he outlines his UFC future.

The Irishman will return to the Octagon tonight for the first time in a year when he takes on Dustin Poirier.

His last fight saw him quickly see off Donald Cerrone to record the 22nd victory of his career.

McGregor has previously announced his retirement on three occasions before performing a u-turn each time and has now joked that the sport will never be able to see him off.

He told ESPN : "The truth is the fight game will never get rid of me.  Conor McGregor will be here until the day I go out. So that's it.

"If they line me up, I'll get about seven fights in the next year and a half. That's what I want."

McGregor has four fights left on his current deal with the UFC.

There is plenty of talk regarding a rematch with the retired Khabib Nurmagomedov, who could be tempted into a return.

The Notorious one lost to the Russian back in 2018 but there is a demand to see the pair go at it again.

McGregor appears re-energised and has claimed he would fight four times before April if he was handed the opponents.

"I've got four fights left on this contract with the UFC. I'd do it in the first quarter of 2021 if they give me the dates," he added.

A trilogy bout with Nate Diaz is one option for McGregor as he considers his options while a fight with Max Holloway could also be of interest.
