Conor McGregor offered advice by Mike Tyson as UFC star struggles with fame

Mike Tyson has told Conor McGregor to buck up his ideas as the UFC star lurches from one controversy to the next.

McGregor has not fought since he was choked out by lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov last October.

He has been involved in a string of controversies and appeared in court last week charged with assault following an alleged incident in Dublin pub.

McGregor will return to court on November 1 to reveal how he intends to plea.

And Tyson, who endured his own rough ride during his reign as heavyweight world champion, had some words of advice for the former champion.

"Conor has to look inside himself and [ask], 'What happened? Why am I the way I am?'," he told ESPN.

"We don’t know how to handle this stuff. We got millions of dollars. We never had this. Our families never had this. We’ve never been around this life.

"All of a sudden you start fighting, doing something you love to do, and you do it easily and all of a sudden they give you a lot of money for doing it.

"You give it away, you buy people gifts that don’t deserve gifts. You just don’t know what to do with it, you feel you don’t deserve it."

McGregor is due to make his return to the UFC early next year with Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier the frontrunners to face the Irishman.

McGregor beat Poirier in 2014 before going on to win the featherweight and lightweight world titles.

And Poirier, who lost to Nurmagomedov last month, wants a second shot.

"I think it could happen; I don't know how likely it is," he told MMA Junkie. "I’m still at the top of the division. He’s ranked under me. If he wants to get back to the title, there’s only one way to do that is to fight. I’m the next guy in line, so I think it makes a lot of sense.

"My star has never been brighter, and people want to see Conor back, and I think it would be a huge fight, and it would be a huge pay-per-view. I just want a fight that’s going to make me excited. I’ve been doing this a long time and not that I’m not motivated, I just want to be excited about it.”
