Conor McGregor next fight on hold after Notorious sustains hand injury

Conor McGregor has suffered a hand injury that could keep him out of action until late summer.

The Notorious posted a picture of his left hand in a cast on Instagram and is now reportedly on the shelf until at the earliest August.

He wrote: "Intense training and sparring sessions, I will always push it to the limits. This [the cast] comes off and I push on! The Proper Don! Nothing will stop me."

This comes as McGregor seemed set to return to the octagon despite claiming in March that he had retired from the sport.

According to MMA insider Ariel Helwani this injury will setback the former two-weight world champion's progress as he neared the announcement of a first bout since last October's loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Helwani said on Twitter: "Conor McGregor’s left hand is in a cast due to an injury suffered while sparring.

"As a result, he’s now targeting a late summer/early fall return, sources say, if they can come to terms on a new deal."
