Conor McGregor news: Notorious says houses built for homeless people are ready to be moved into

Conor McGregor says houses he paid for to be built for homeless people are now ready to be moved into.

The Notorious revealed last May that he was behind the development of eight housing units for homeless families in Dublin and has now announced that they are ready for use.

He posted on Twitter: "Waiting on Dublin City council to sign off here. These impeccably built homes are now ready for tenants to move in. Please DCC, sign off on these.

"We have people without residence eagerly awaiting to move in. We are built and ready to go. Thank you."

Dublin City Council say they have tenants ready to move into the houses, but have not had any dealings with the UFC star.

They said in a statement: "Dublin City Council is not and has not had any dealings with Mr McGregor.

"There is a residential development in Santry that Tuath (AHB) have acquired for social housing from a private developer (Which we understand involves Mr McGregor)

"This development has been funded by the Government through Dublin City Council under its Social Housing Funding Schemes.

"Dublin City Council has 100% nomination rights for the tenants moving into the new development (Which will be managed by Tuath)

"The prospective tenants have been selected are ready to move in and DCC is extremely keen that this happens as quickly as possible

"Unfortunately the Covid-19 lockdown on construction work occurred just before final completion of this project and we understand there are still some drainage issues to be resolved.

"We are liaising with Tuath to see if there is any way of resolving this issue because DCC is as anxious as everybody else to get families into these homes."

Meanwhile, McGregor may have to wait until next year to get another shot for the UFC lightweight title.

The Dubliner had hoped to face the winner of Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson later this year, but that fight has now been scrapped at UFC 249 with Ferguson facing Justin Gaethje for the interim 155lb belt instead.

The winner is likely to take on Nurmagomedov in September, leaving McGregor's hopes of avenging his 2018 defeat by the champion in limbo.

McGregor was last in action in January when he stopped Donald Cerrone in just 40 seconds and had held talks over a summer clash with Gaethje, but that fight is now redundant.

"Everyone felt that if Conor was going to get a shot at Khabib that Gaethje should get it before Conor," UFC president Dana White told ESPN.

"It couldn't have worked out any better, it's the fight that makes sense between two of the best guys in the world.

"Khabib is out so the winner will get a shot at him.

"Conor really wants that rematch with Khabib but Khabib and either Tony or Gaethje won't fight until September.

"Nobody saw this coming, it's something you couldn't have predicted but we'll get it figured out."
